Weddings Around the World: Somerset, England

We love the cheery vibe of this wedding sent in from Mithi, a bride from Somerset England!

“Our families live in different corners of the world, and as such, we had to do pretty much all the wedding planning ourselves. We wanted something that said ‘English country tea and picnic as put on by Drew and Mithi’, with outdoor space for people to dance and play in – hence the venue, Gant’s Mill.”

“My dress and Drew’s suit were off the shelf things that we liked and would wear again rather than from a bridal place. I did all the decorations and details (man did I spend a lot of time sourcing ideas from wedding blogs!)”

“We asked our friends to bring cakes instead of lieu of a wedding present! And MAN did we have cake! We had at least 15 different cakes, including gluten-free ones and even a vegan one. I had been collecting vintage cake stands for the last year or so and laid them out on a long table.”

“My mum did the flowers that we got from the best man’s garden, the photography and film was done by friends and family, friends brought the cake… you get the idea. We didn’t even need to organize entertainment as we had lots of dancer and juggler friends who were happy to entertain themselves and each other by performing, playing, teaching (hoola-hooping turned out to be a very good thing!), DJ-ing and dancing the night away…”

“The friend that introduced us was my “man-of-honour”, and another good friend was my “bridesman” – yes, an all male bridal party! Drew had both a best man and a best woman. The “best-posse” (bridal party, plus other halves, plus another friend who stepped in to help, were an absolute God-send. We are SO lucky to be surrounded by such great friends.”

“Our wedding wasn’t so much about us committing to each other – as I think we’d done that mentally pretty much when we got engaged; but it was instead about a bringing-together of our friends and families for a celebration of our union. The emphasis wasn’t about ‘how can we make the bride look more beautiful’; but more about ‘how can we make this event more fun for the guests’.And I think we did a fairly good job!”
